Why the D.R.?

08/07/09 06:54

It's February, and you're lounging in a hammock on the most beautiful tropical beach in the world. Your toes are digging into the warm white sand. Pure silky powdered sugar between your toes. Pina Colada in your hand and a dreamy smile on your face.

84 degrees F. The sun is hot, but you won't burn because of the multitude of coconut palms swaying in the gentle breeze overhead. And of course, the clear turquoise Caribbean waters are waiting for you to cool off at 76 F ...

Your cell phone rings. Oh no, you don't really want to answer. Your friend Judy from New York is just calling to complain about the horrible, cold, rainy weather. The office stress, and how it took 55 minutes in the crowded metro today to get to work.

And you ask WHY the DR??

Of course it's beautiful and warm and relaxed, but you want some sensible reasons why the D.R. Is a great place to live?

  1. Best beaches in the world
Here you will truly find the most gorgeous, amazing, breathtaking beaches. EVER. Miles and miles of them. White-sanded, palm-studded, clear-watered beaches safe for swimming (Punta Cana), snorkeling (La Romana), surfing Puerto Plata). Just like in your wildest dreams, or better. Satisfaction guaranteed.
  2. Super-friendly open people
No foul-mooded grimaces on a Monday morning. Dominicans always seem to be in a good mood. They won't snarl at you for no reason. They won't be curt and unfriendly at a store. They will always greet you with a smile, let you into their conversation, invite you in. You'll make a lot of friends in no time at all!
  3. High-quality, affordable real estate
The D.R. Offers real estate at very good prices and a high gain in your investment. It's still worth to buy and just wait - your object will increase in value anywhere from 15-35% in one year! Prices are a lot less than other Caribbean Destinations, and you get better quality and amenities.
  4. Tax Paradise
It's very easy to get around paying taxes. The tax laws have you pay very little, anyway, and your lawyer will help you get around them, if you're morally OK with it.

So what are you waiting for? Come on down to the D.R. and see for yourself!

Some of my Amerian friends refer to it as the "Dom Rep", for short. They stop at the first "colmado", or grocery store, leaving Las Américas International Airport to get their first "presidente" beer, jokingly "dressed for her wedding" from the frosty bottle.

If they turn right they are probably headed for one of the marvels of the world: Bavaro and Punta Cana. These places are difficult to describe, but they are there and real. You also have the option of flying into Punta Cana International Airport right next door to the finest beaches and resorts you can imagine.

It will be my pleasure to post again in this blog to provide some real local flavor on Dom. Rep. and possibly the thrill of seeing some of you around some day.
