You don't normally get a lot of world-class musical films hailing from the Dominican Republic and reaching a global ageas. Those types of musicals come in about only once or twice every few years, making it very rare for a musical to get past the national stage and go into the global scene.
This long period of no product has been finally finished with the world premier of the much-anticipated Dominican musical entitled, "Sol Caribe." The musical/documentary mainly features a national concert tour that highlights four of the country's four major rhythms: Merengue, Bachata, Son, and Merengue Tipico.
The musical will be broadcast from Santo Domingo on SuperCanal Caribe transmitted all throughout the US via Comcast and Time Warner. The documentary was caught on camera by international film director Felix Limardo, including some testimonials that play a major part in catching the heart of the Dominican Republic's culture on film. The film shows the very essence of the existence of the Dominican people, exposing and introducing their culture to the rest of the world.
And who will be playing? According to press releases, it will be starred by 12 icons in the Dominican music industry, including Milly Quezada, Johnny Ventura, Cuco Valoy, Joseito Mateo, Wilfrido Vargas, Fefita La Grande, Fernando Echavarria, Bartolo Alvarado (El Cieguito de Nagua), Francisco Ulloa, Luis Segura, Jose Manuel Calderon and Francis Santana. They will all be under the musical direction of Jorge Traveras in what is considered to be the first musical concert to incorporate all four major Dominican rhythms.
According to Globe News Wire, the most notable performance in the documentary was "La Puerta Del Nuevo Mundo!" (Doorway to the New World), written by Huchy Lora and composed by Jorge Traveras. In that song, all the 12 singers collaborate and sing parts of the song in their specific genre in one seamless, magical fashion.
Surely, this is one film you should not miss. A film that captures the heart and soul of Dominican culture is a must-watch for everyone.
