I know that you've dreamed of having your own place somewhere down there in the Caribbean. Endless white beaches, swaying palm trees, tropical rhythms...
Where are the best places in the DR?
1. Punta Cana If you love Beach, Beach Beach!!!
Over 30 miles of amazing, powder-white sandy beaches with Coconut palms. Unbelievably beautiful. Turquoise ocean. You can swim all year round. The only clothes you need: bathing suit, wrap-around, flip-flops. That's it.
Punta Cana is far away from the next town. 40 huge all-inclusive resorts are strung along the coastline. You find a lot of plazas and shopping centers. Some nice restaurants, discos and a couple of chill-out beach bars, all very touristy.
If you want to go local, no problem. You'll find the barrios a few minutes away with local car-washes, colmados and pure Dominican ambiente. (Yes, it's safe!)
2. Samana Mountains and Sea
A mountainous peninsula in the north-east, with stunning views. You see small towns along a windy road, a rocky coastline and lush tropical rain forest. There are sandy coves set into the rough coast, and millions of Coconut palms grow everywhere.
Samana is for the nature lover. Looking for a peaceful paradise to do your own thing? This is right for you.
3. Puerto Plata Action and Surfing
Lively town on the north coast with wide, windy beaches perfect for surfing.
You get a real city nightlife with many types of bars, nightclubs and restaurants. You'll find all-inclusive hotels and smaller pensions. Cabarete, a beach town close by, is a surfer's paradise with a lot of chill-out beach bars. The cool guys hang out here.
4. Little casa in the mountains The Simple Life
If you really want to get away from it all, go to the mountains! A tropical mountain climate is perfect for all ages, warm in the day, cool at night. Constanza, Jarabacoa, or any town higher than 500 m is a great place to buy a little house and forget the fast life.
Grow Cacao, bananas and ride your donkey to the little waterfall down the road. You'll find pure happiness here.
