Every now and then, it is already natural for a traveller to go back to the city and have some urban fun in between some trips to the deepest parts of the country. While the real wonders are in the outlying areas, a special feeling is still associated with the city and the glitzy life that it has to offer.
In the case of Santo Domingo, the special urban area may be Malecon Center, a network of skyscraper and urban structures that has become home to a lot of the country's most famous restaurants and casinos.
Well, it really isn't a "city" as it only has four towers: Malecon 1, Malecon 2, Malecon 3, and Hilton Santo Domingo. If you are really looking for some fun in Santo Domingo, however, this is really the place to be. Its waterfront location--it runs along the sea--also make it a very good sight to have every night, when the lights are turned on against a backdrop of sea.
In the morning, you could go and sit on one of the benches in the sidewalk, have some lunch in a cafe in the center, watch the sea, and then go back to your hotel room. In the evening, you may be able to catch up on some of the festivals held here, such as the Merengue Festival.
At the center of the Malecon Center (figuratively) is the Hilton Santo Domingo, a member-hotel of the Hilton chain of hotels. I think it's already safe to say that the hotel is the epitome of the ultimate hotel experience in Dominican Republic. If you have some money to spare, then staying here for a night or two is a must.
But then again, this is just a break. The real Dominican Republic awaits for you in the countryside, where the seas meet the skies, and where the underground caves have a life of their own.
