A lot of people that I know say that there is no losing money in the food and dining business. This was assumed because of the fact that people have to eat in order to survive. Wrong. Because of intense competition in the market, it is highly possible for one diner or restaurant to go down and vanish. So there is always the need to innovate and introduce something new to the consumers. In the restaurant business, this may be through concocting up new options in your menu or, more commonly, introduce new dining concepts that will send potential customers to the ends of curiosity. Mix these innovations together and you're bound to have a killer restaurant idea.
I think El Meson de la Cava perfectly fits this category. Located in the heart of Santo Domingo, this underground restaurant will give you a new perspective on how underground caves can be used--not that underground caves are regularly used for other purposes, anyway.
At first hearing, this may sound like a terrible idea. When I heard the phrase "underground caves," all I imagined were bats, dampness, and stalactites and stalagmites. Well here in El Meson de la Cava, there are stalactites and stalagmites, but there are definitely no bats present to interrupt your meal. Dining here also adds to the rich history of the cave, which was once used as a pirate hideaway many centuries ago.
As for the food, well, you also won't get disappointed. The restaurant mainly serves seafood, although the menu is still diverse. Perhaps their key specialty here is the traditional shrimp in cilantro cream sauce, a classic Dominican recipe. Other favorites include Caribbean rock lobsters and French lamb chops.
Don't you have time to explore the Dominican outdoors? Then better dine here in El Meson instead to have a taste of what it feels like down there--all with that urban dining experience.
